McCallan Bonded is a zero-carbon facility and are on track to achieve Net Zero Plus status.
A zero-carbon whiskey maturation facility powered entirely by renewable energy, using sustainably recovered and wind-dried plantation timber for heating. Water harvesting from our buildings, and a water spring revival project.

From the outset, the plan was simple: build a self-sufficient facility powered by renewable energy. By combining wind and solar generation, efficient thermal heating, water harvesting, battery storage, electric transport, and responsible timber use, every system was designed to work together, with a revived natural spring completing the picture.
Solar panels were installed to harness renewable energy and supplement power across our office, outbuildings, and home, forming one of the first building blocks in our move toward energy independence.

The installation of a 150kW wind turbine marked a defining moment in the site’s transformation. Harnessing wind energy to power the yard, outbuildings, and home, it became the primary source of clean energy for the entire facility and homestead.
Plantation timber is seasoned naturally in the Drying Shed before being burned in the Froling firewood boiler. This renewable system supplies heat and hot water to Granda Arthur’s Office, The Sandshed events space, and Uncle Arthur’s storage shed.

A 1000-litre buffer tank stores thermal energy efficiently, ensuring a consistent supply of heat and hot water to our home and offices. The system is powered entirely by renewable energy, maximising efficiency across the site.
Battery storage allows renewable energy generated on site to be captured and reused, supporting consistent, resilient operations and reducing reliance on external power sources.

A 10,000-litre water harvesting tank collects rainwater from our buildings and is used to wash the yard, buildings, and vehicles, reducing reliance on mains water and supporting sustainable site operations.
Our sustainability initiatives align with several of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, including:

By utilising wind and solar power, we contribute to the global effort to provide affordable and clean energy.

Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: By diversifying a part of our farm into a Whiskey Maturation Facility, repurposing old sheds in to new storage sheds, and growing the facility through to phase 7 by March 2026, we have successfully pivoted from farming this section of land to a fully functional maturation facility. Our innovation through battery storage investment further affirms our commitment to this goal.

Our water harvesting system, our new well, and clean energy-efficient practices through wind, solar and battery storage, promote responsible consumption and production.

Achieving Net Zero status demonstrates our commitment to taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
