Whiskey maturation is the process where whiskey ages in casks, allowing it to develop its unique flavours and characteristics. The interaction between the whiskey and the wood of the cask is crucial, as it imparts distinct notes and complexities to the spirit. At McCallan Bonded, we provide the ideal environment for your whiskey to mature to perfection.
As a bonded facility, we are regulated by HMRC, ensuring that all operations meet stringent standards. This means we are required to vet all individuals or organisations before they become clients. We maintain meticulous records and a strong relationship with HMRC to ensure compliance and security.
At McCallan Bonded, we are proud to have achieved Net Zero status, reflecting our dedication to environmental sustainability and responsible business practices. Our efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that we contribute positively to global sustainability initiatives.
We have a 150KW wind turbine on-site, harnessing the power of wind to generate clean, renewable energy for our facility.
Our 13KW of solar panels capture sunlight and convert it into electricity, further reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
To maximize the efficiency of our renewable energy systems, we have invested in a battery storage system, allowing us to consume and store excess energy for use during periods of low generation.
Water Harvesting System: We have installed a water harvesting system to collect and utilize rainwater from the roofs of the sheds, reducing our dependence on external water sources and promoting sustainable water management.
The next phase in water conservation will be to bore a well as our farm is fortunate to have many natural springs.
As a further outlet for excess energy being generated through wind and solar, we have invested in a drying system and a purpose-built drying shed that will dry firewood, wood chip and animal bedding. All of this material will have been sourced from our 16-acre plantation, and only where trees have fallen or had been used a nursery trees.
Affordable and Clean Energy: By utilizing wind and solar power, we contribute to the global effort to provide affordable and clean energy.
Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: By diversifying a part of our farm into a Whiskey Maturation Facility, repurposing old sheds in to new storage sheds, and growing the facility through to phase 7 by March 2026, we have successfully pivoted from farming this section of land to a fully functional maturation facility. Our innovation through battery storage investment further affirms our commitment to this goal.
Responsible Consumption and Production: Our water harvesting system, our new well, and clean energy-efficient practices through wind, solar and battery storage, promote responsible consumption and production.
Climate Action: Achieving Net Zero status demonstrates our commitment to taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
We are proud of our continued investment in our electric forklift with Jungheinrich which are now an integral part of our operations.
These forklifts are charged using our on-site renewable energy sources, including our wind turbine and solar panels. This initiative not only supports our net zero status but also underscores our commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
